Sunday is the day when I slow things down a bit, sleep a little longer, and, most importantly, take care of my skin so I can look fresh for the week ahead. So today, I am going to review one of the face masks I like to use on these days to hydrate and nourish my skin – the Elizavecca Green Piggy Collagen Jella Pack. I know, it’s an awfully long name, but basically, it’s a face pack made of pig collagen.
The mask is made of 50% collagen peptides extracted from pork rinds, as well as fermented soybeans, adenosine, macadamia seed oil and cacao seed extracts. It’s meant to be super moisturising, lock in moisture, make skin more resilient and firm and improve signs of aging. What I like about this mask is that it is made without artificial and potentially irritating ingredients. It does not contain parabens, mineral oils, ethanol, artificial colours and benzophenone.
I bought this mask on sasa.com for approximately £10, which is a pretty good deal since you only need to use a small amount it each time. I’ve had it for a few months now and have only used about a quarter so far, so I know this mask will last me a while. However, I’ve heard there are a lot of fakes of this product around, so make sure you buy from a reputable website!
The mask comes with a spatula inside, which I find very useful since I don’t like to scoop the product out using my fingers, as it might cause contamination. The colour is a light beige and it has a nice, citrusy yet sweet smell. It does smell a teeny bit strong at first but fades pretty quickly, so it shouldn’t be an issue for scent-sensitive people.
I found that the texture of this face pack is quite unique; it has a thick, Jell-O kind of consistency, but when rubbed between palms dissolves into a slightly more liquid state, which can then be applied to the face. It feels very cooling and soothing on the skin, and, while it’s a bit wet at first, it starts drying within a few minutes, transforming into a gel-like coat on the skin.
This collagen pack can be used in some different ways. Personally, I like to massage it in for a few minutes, then either wait for about 20 minutes before washing it off, or, on days when my skin feels drier, use it as an overnight mask.
After leaving the mask on for about 20 minutes or overnight, my skin definitely feels and looks fresher, recharged and moisturised. Though I couldn’t see any improvements on fine lines after using it for quite a while, I do think it improves skin texture and moisture-content significantly.
This is the first Elizavecca product I have tried, and I must say they did a great job in coming up with a refreshing, moisturising product that nourishes skin without resourcing to artificial ingredients, which is a big plus. Although the thought of putting pig collagen on skin might sound a bit odd at first, this face pack feels and smells amazing and there is absolutely nothing off-putting about it. So, besides not seeing improvements on fine lines, I still think this product is worth the hype and I would definitely repurchase it once it runs out.
Score: 4.5/5
