My Beauty Diary Pink Beige Box Review

IMG_6369

Today I’m going to review one of the My Beauty Diary Collection Boxes I got from SaSa a while ago. Actually, I bought the Pink Beige and the Mint Green Aroma boxes but so far I’ve only managed to try all the mask from the Pink box.

What initially attracted me to these boxes was the fact that they were a pretty quite a good deal financially speaking. For £13.10, you get 16 pieces of assorted sheet masks. If I were to buy these in London’s Chinatown, I’d pay around £10 for a box of 10 pieces of one type. Also, I liked the idea of getting a different masks so that I could try them and decide which ones work best for me.

Now, let’s talk about the PINK BEIGE box:

Packaging

The masks come in a box made of cardboard in a lovely pastel pink colour, adorned with flowers around and on top of it. I really like the design of the box – it looks super cute on a shelf or table!

Assortment

The box comes with 6 of their special “aroma” and 10 of their “normal” or “key line” assortment, which seems like a good balance to me. The pink box comes with following masks:

Citrus Firming Aroma Mask – 2 pieces

Rose Brightening Aroma Mask – 2 pieces

Vanilla Moisturising Aroma Mask – 2 pieces

Black Pearl Mask – 5 pieces

Natto Mask – 5 pieces

My Experience

I tend to use 1 to 2 sheet masks per week, one during workdays and one during the weekend. I didn’t use the masks in a particular order, just chose one that best matched my skins need that day. I have also only used each mask once, so bear in mind that this review is focused only on the immediate effect, not what it can achieve in the long run!

Citrus Firming Aroma Mask

This mask is supposed to firm and clarify skin. It contains retinol, which is a powerful wrinkle-reducing ingredient, as well as aloe to moisturise and hydrolysed rice and jojoba extracts to shrink pore-size and nourish skin.

The mask has a rather large cut, but it covers the whole face well and is fairly adjustable. I found that it was very soaked, and while using it the essence was constantly dripping, which was just a tad annoying. It has a fresh, citrusy smell and feels very refreshing on the skin. I think this mask is best used in summer because of the refreshing scent and how cooling it is. I usually leave it on for about 25 minutes, which is the recommended time, although it will be far from dry even then. To make the most of all the leftover essence, I like to spread some on my neck and even my hands.

This mask left my skin wonderfully even and bright, as if it had been polished! It erased redness, reduced pore size and made my complexion look much healthier. Also, the effect lasted until the next morning, so thumbs up for the citrus mask!

Score: 4.5/5

Rose Brightening Mask

The rose mask is supposed to be brightening and freshening. I’m not exactly sure what is meant by freshening, but assume it’s something like being cooling or soothing. It contains some interesting ingredients such as glycerin, aloe, pineapple, lemon and orange extract as well as cucumber extracts to soothe and calm down irritated skin.

Upon taking the mask out of the sachet, the strong, floral scent became immediately noticeable. While the scent itself is quite pleasant, I felt it was a tad overwhelming, as it didn’t fade even after several minutes. The mask itself has a good fit and is not too soaked as to drip from the face.

Judging from the ingredients in the mask, I was expecting some very good results, but perhaps I was just expecting too much. After removing it, my skin did feel softer and looked a slightly more plump, but there wasn’t a brightening effect of any sorts. It also didn’t really help with pore-size or redness, which is something I would have expect from a rose mask. Also, spending the entire 20 minutes covered in a cloud of strong rose smell that reminded me of air freshener was not pleasant at all. I know opinions vary a lot in regards to rose scent, and while I do usually enjoy it, this one was just too heavy and strong, so ultimately this is not a mask I would repurchase.

Score: 2.5/5

Vanilla Moisturising Mask

Ooh, I love the smell of vanilla!

This mask contains hyaluronic acid, which is excellent for attracting and locking in moisture in the skin, as well as aloe, cane and maple sugars to add even more hydration. Almost like a cake, this mask seems to be a pretty sweet deal! It has a pleasant, sugary smell, but it’s not overwhelming and after wearing it for a while you won’t actually notice it anymore. It’s not too soaked and doesn’t drip on the face either which is something I appreciate.

This vanilla mask is said to me moisturising, nourishing and soothing, and I found that, after using it for 25 minutes, it managed to do just that. My skin condition did seemed improved and healthier than before due to the added moisture and the soothing ingredients which calm down irritated skin.

I think this is a good staple mask for people that struggle with dry skin who need a weekly treat to keep their skins moisture level balanced. This a classic example of a MBD mask that delivers what it promises while being super easy to use and having a lovely scent!

Score: 3.5/5

Black Pearl Mask

This is supposedly one of My Beauty Diary’s best sellers, and I’ve seen it all the time in stores like Watsons while I was in Thailand.

The pearl mask contains whitening ingredients like liquorice and hydrolysed pearl protein, as well as red algae and mallow extracts to keep skin hydrated. It has a light, pleasant scent and the cut was also on the slightly larger side. I guess this is a good thing as it will fit majority of faces and you can still adjust it if necessary.

This is another mask from My Beauty Diary that I really, really liked. It left my skin nicely hydrated, got rid of red patches on my cheeks and around my nose and left it even toned and bright. Regarding the whitening properties, I don’t think my skin was any whiter, but more glowy instead. To get the whitening benefits I suppose this mask has to be used regularly and on a constant basis, which I’m not doing at the moment. But other than that, I still think this is a great mask that can bring the glow back to tired, dull skin!

Score: 4.0/5

Natto Mask

IMG_4616

Ok, so this was the mask I was kind of…dreading a bit. You might have heard of natto before; it is a traditional Japanese dish made by fermenting soybeans. I’ve never tried or even come close to natto before, but I’ve heard that it has a very strong, pungent smell. Knowing that, I was a bit afraid of potentially sticking a smelly mask on my face for a whole 20 minutes. To my great relief, the natto mask had a nice sweet scent that also faded pretty quickly *phew*.

Eating natto has lots of health benefits and is also proven to keep skin younger for longer, but when applied as a mask, it is supposed to be firming and tightening. After using it for about 20 minutes, I noticed that my skin was more hydrated and my pores seemed smaller and overall smoother, but I can’t say that my skin looked or felt tighter. However,  I don’t think I have problems with firmness yet, so maybe that’s why I didn’t see an obvious improvement. Still, it would be interesting to know if one of you noticed tighter skin after using this mask?

Score: 3/5

So, which of these masks would I repurchase and which ones didn’t make the cut? All these masks provide some hydration and suppleness after use, but only a few of them had additional benefits that went further than that. For me, these were the citrus and the black pearl masks.

Not only did they moisturise my skin, they also made it look better, as if I just came back from a spa or had a very good nights sleep. The citrus mask gave me a healthy looking complexion by minimising pore size and getting rid of red patches, while the black pearl mask managed to make dull skin look bright and glowing again, so these are the 2 masks I will definitely be stocking up.

As for the pink box, I think these collection boxes are super useful if you are new to My Beauty Diary masks or want to experiment with different masks without spending a fortune on them, but I probably wouldn’t repurchase it on a regular basis and rather stick to buying the single masks that work best for me instead.

Which My Beauty Diary masks have you tried so far and which one is your favourite? I’d love to read your experiences and recommendations, so please don’t forget to leave a comment below! 🙂
