Review: Lush Celebrate Body Lotion

design

As most of you must know by now, I’m currently pretty crazy about Korean skincare when it comes to mah face. However, in terms of shower gels, body lotions and so on, I still tend to stick to western brands and products, mainly because they’re just easier to get over here and there’s quite a broad range of products to choose from.

One of my favourite western brands for body care is definitely LUSH. They’re a UK company that specialise in freshly made, hand-crafted cosmetics which feature plenty of essential oils and ingredients from natural sources. Whenever you buy one of their products, you can also see the name of the person who made it and on which date, thanks to the stickers added to the products. The prices tend to be a bit above average but most of the times still pretty affordable. Ah, they also feature a lot of vegan products and are explicitly against testing on animals!

Since the cold weather is really drying out my skin, I’ve decided I needed a heavier, more potent body lotion, and as usual I ended up looking for one at Lush during a stroll around London.

I ended up settling for the Celebrate Body Lotion, which is a new addition to their line specially for the festive winter season.

Before rating it, it’s worth going over a few of the more noteworthy ingredients in this lotion:

Almond Oil (Prunus dulcis): Rich in vitamin E that blocks free radicals and therefore reduces the signs of aging, zinc, monounsaturated fatty acids and potassium, almond oil is a powerhouse of skin-loving ingredients. Apart from fighting off wrinkles, it is also deeply moisturising and even reduces acne breakouts due to the vitamin A it contains.

Cocoa Butter: Also contains antioxidants to fight of skin-damaging free radicals, as well as having healing and restorative properties that may help reduce the appearance of scarring and stretch marks (though there is no scientific evidence behind this claim, a lot of people seem to note a difference after using cocoa butter).

Orange Oil (Citrus Sinensis): Orange oil has antiseptic properties that inhibit microbial growth and disinfect wounds (things we definitely don’t want on our skin), as well as helping treating acne and dermatitis.  The scent is also said to have a calming, relaxing and anti-depressant effect so it’s great after a long day at work, stressful exams or simply for a good night’s sleep.

Packaging

Well, for those who are familiar with Lush, the packaging won’t be much news. The lotion contains 225g of product that comes in a black, sturdy plastic container with a screw cap. There are stickers over with containing product name, ingredient lists and the person who manufactured it. As usual, the container is made of recycled materials and can be brought back to Lush for reutilisation.

Scent

Ah, man. The scent is probably THE best part of the lotion and the main reason I bought it (also no news when it comes to Lush products). It is simply a-ma-zing. The main note is fresh, sweet orange, but it definitely has sub notes of other citrus fruits like lime as well as warming almonds. The name ‘Celebrate’ definitely nails it as it’s rich, festive kind of smell you would definitely expect on Christmas.

Texture

This cream is very thick and rich and something you’d definitely want to use during cold climates, as it would just be too rich for summer. As soon as it gets in contact with skin, it melts and is very easy to apply. Since it’s a heavy-duty product, it does leave a bit of a protective film on the skin for a while but disappears eventually, leaving behind only the heavenly scent.

Results

I know I say this often, but man, I am in love with this lotion. It moisturises  and protects skin from the harsh weather, applies easily and leaves my skin smelling like Christmas and tropical forests at the same time. Not only does it smell heavenly, the scent also helps me relax at night and even lifts my mood every time I use it. What’s not to like about this?

Score: 5/5

Would I repurchase? Definitely!
