New: Product Empties!

Hey guys,

Happy Saturday! The weather has gone back to cold, grey and windy and it’s making me feel unmotivated and tired all the time. I spend half the days wishing I was in bed cuddling my pillow instead and cringe just at the thought of having to step into the cold outside.

BUT, on a totally different note, I recently managed to use up enough of my daily routine products to convince myself it’s time for a “product empties” post!

I’ve been using most of these products for a long time and they have become staples for me as I’ve become so used to them or just because of how amazing they’ve been. It’s sad to see them go, but at the same time I’m excited that I can try out something new now! 🙂

Let’s start by the product I’ve had for the longest time…

1. Shu Uemura Fresh Pore Clarifying Gentle Cleansing Oil – Mamechiyo Limited Edition

Shu Uemura is probably the father of cleansing oils. It’s mainly thanks to his line of face oils that this kind of product has gained so much popularity not only in Asia, but worldwide. I was lucky enough to get my hands on this beautiful limited edition of the pore clarifying oil, which is from the 2012 spring collection designed by kimono artist Mamechiyo. However, I bought this oil a year later, in 2013, when I randomly stumbled across it online. Shu Uemura cleansing oils don’t come cheaply, but the bottles are huge (240 ml) and after all the hype from bloggers and youtubers, I had to find out if all the hype was legit.

In my humble opinion, it was damn worth the money, after all this oil lasted me for almost 2 years, even though I use it almost every day! The oil itself has a nice, light feel to it, smells beautifully like a flower bouquet, but not overpowering, and effectively gets rid of all my makeup, even stubborn mascara. It emulsifies well and after rinsing my face, I don’t have any oily film or residue left on my skin. Technically you could use it as a single step cleanser, but I personally prefer to follow up with a foam cleanser. I also appreciate the pump design as it makes it super easy to get the right amount of oil you’ll need to use. I never had any issues like breaking out or tight feeling skin with this oil, as it’s very gentle; but don’t expect it to be the miracle product that will make your pores invisible overnight! The only drawback is certainly the price, which is quite hefty; but at least you’d know that it will last you for ages.

1. Lancome Hypnose Doll Eyes Mascara

I can’t possibly express in words how much I LOVE this product. In my 25 years, I have not yet come across a mascara that would beat this one. It’s definitely a HG product for me. It gives my lashes decent volume and length without making them look like a dead fly’s legs. It doesn’t clump or glue the lashes together either, which is something I absolutely can’t stand. The consistency is just right for me, it’s not too liquid as to smudge the skin when blinking and yet not too dry. The results are beautiful: thicker, longer lashes that still look natural. Although I have lighter, blonde lashes, I think the black mascara is still good enough for a daily/natural look, since it’s not a super intense kind of black. One layer is usually enough for me but if I want to make them look even longer I sometimes apply a second layer only to the tips of my lashes. I’m definitely going to get another one of these!

3. Shiseido White Lucent Brightening Protective Emulsion SPF 15

Hmmm, while I do like this product, I’ve had my good and bad days with it. It is definitely an excellent, light moisturiser for the warmer months of the year. The fact that it’s not too thick and absorbs quickly while simultaneously having a mild sun block makes it great for sunny spring or summer days. Upon application it somewhat brightens the face, but I can’t confirm that it made a significant change to my complexion after months of using it. As for it erasing pigmentation and scars, I do think it helps somewhat, but if you want to see a significant reduction in that respect you’d probably have to use the whole line, not just the emulsion. During autumn and winter or when it’s generally cold and windy, I found that this product isn’t hydrating enough, so you’d either have to follow with a heavier cream or just use a different, more moisturising one. I’d recommend this cream for people looking for a light, protective cream for the warmer months that adds a bit of a glow to the face. If it’s winter or cold where you live you’d better skip the emulsion and go for the thicker, heavier cream of this line. Also, the version I have didn’t come with a pump but screw cap, which makes it messy and difficult to get the right amount of product, so thumbs down for the design, Shiseido!

4. Miaroma Rosemary & Meadow Lavender Pure Essential Oils

I got these 2 oils from Holland and Barrett for £5.19 each. I’m a huge fan of essential oils because they have so many benefits and different ways to use them. I mostly use them for hair treatments by mixing a few drops of these with a carrier oil (for example almond or avocado) and massaging it into my scalp and lengths. Trust me, they do wonders for your scalp! Rosemary and lavender oil stimulate hair growth and work against hair loss and dandruff when applied to the scalp. Just make sure you always dilute them with a carrier oil! I also love adding a few drops of these to my baths to help me relax or to a oil burner in the lounge or bedroom for a nice atmosphere. As you can see, there are so many ways to use them and associated benefits that I don’t really mind the price despite the small size of the bottle!

And that’s it! This kind of post was a first for me, but I think it’s an interesting way of writing about products I’ve tried for a long period of time, so I’m definitely going to do more of these!

Have you tried any of these products or heard something different about them? Make sure to let me know what you think 🙂

Thanks so much for reading!
