Review: Ettusais Peeling Milk

Today I want to write about a product I’ve been using for the last few months and that has conquered a place amongst my favourite products: Ettusais Peeling Milk.

Ettusais is a Japanese brand founded it 1991 that specialises in skincare and makeup. The name “ettusais” can actually be divided into “et tu sais”, which is French for “you know what?”. It is a term often used amongst French girls to chat and gossip with their friends about exciting stuff. And, ‘lemme tell you, this peeling sure is something exciting!

Most of the people in Europe still predominantly use mechanical means such as sugar scrubs or store-bought peels that contain micro beads to exfoliate and polish skin.

Regularly exfoliating is extremely important to get rid of all the dead skin and waste that accumulates on your face over time and causes clogged pores, dull complexion and breakouts. It can also help in reducing fine lines, hyper pigmentation, minimise pore size and helps your other skincare products to be absorbed better. So, while most scrubs do address these issues, depending on your skin type they may be too harsh and cause irritation, redness and, yikes – micro-tears in your skin that could make it  very sensitive. I often found that my scrubs left me with smooth skin for one day, but dry, irritated skin on the next that would eventually result in minor breakouts.

While I was looking for a gentler way to exfoliate my skin I started to read more about chemical peels. These gentler products are already pretty standard in Asia and come in different consistencies such as gels or milks.

I decided to get Ettusais Peeling Milk because I liked the fact that it’s only mildly acidic -and therefore gentler – and alcohol-free, as I avoid skincare products that contain alcohol.

Here’s what the manufacturer claims: When life gives us lemons, we make Lemon Extract Glycerin! It softens skin so that dead skin cells are easily lifted off for crystal clear perfection. Impurities are entwined with Plant-Derived Fibres, instantly firmed up and swept off in 20 seconds flat! This multi-tasking exfoliator triples up as a softener + moisturizing milk + brightener!

Different from a scrub, you’re supposed to apply the milk on clean, dry skin. After spreading it over your face, gently massage in circular motions for 20 seconds (only use your fingers) and wash off. The smell is rather faint and kind of citrusy with a hint of something I can’t really identify, sort of glue-like (if you’ve tried and you know what it is do let me know!). Once you wash it off the scent completely disappears, so if you’re sensitive to scents you should be fine using this.

At first I was a bit sceptical about how this milky white liquid would do the same job as a scrub, but when I started massaging my skin with it I was amazed at what was suddenly forming in front of my eyes. After just a few seconds, tiny clots that looked like eraser dust started forming on the surface. Can you guess what it was? All the dead skin that was coming off as the milk was doing its work!

Eww, look at all that dead skin coming off!

When I washed it off I found that my skin looked visibly brightened, although this is more of a temporary effect. But I could feel how soft and smooth it felt, and the best, there was no redness or irritation whatsoever! This peeling also claims to erase blackheads and clean pores, and I could tell that the blackheads on my nose looked less visible after using the peeling.

So, what’s my verdict? I’ve been using this peeling milk for a while now and the results I get are consistent: bright, smooth and clearer looking skin. It doesn’t irritate or dries my skin at all and didn’t give me any breakouts. Although the bottle isn’t very big (125 ml), I know this will last me for a long time as you only need a little to cover the whole face and you’re only use it once or twice a week.

I think this is a great alternative for people with acne or sensitive skin that tends to get red and irritated quickly, as it is very gentle on the skin. There’s no harsh rubbing and scrubbing that could cause scarring and other problems. My only concern is that it might not be effective enough for those dealing with very flaky skin (during cold winter months for example), as this peeling may not be able to remove them completely due to it being very gentle. But other than that, I would absolutely recommend to give this innovative product a try!

If you’ve tried this product or something similar or you’re considering getting one I’d love to hear your opinions and questions, so make sure to hit the comment section! 🙂
